Week 17 in review
Huesca and Levante both remain in the drop zone as the latest round of fixtures kicked off on Tuesday evening with defeat for both sides. Huesca, currently sitting in 18th place, fell 1-0 at home against Elche, while Levante were left to rue goals in stoppage time at the end of each half as they fell 2-0 against Real Madrid, with skipper Sergio Ramos on 45+2 minutes and veteran striker Karim Benzema in the 92nd minute doing the damage.
Wednesday evening saw Valencia remain clear at the top with their 4-2 win at Getafe, while in the other game the Seville derby ended all square, with Real Betis and Sevilla playing out a 1-1 draw. In the later kick-offs Barcelona maintained their pressure at the top with a 2-0 win over Cádiz, both goals coming in the opening 12 minutes, while Real Sociedad also remained in touching distance of the European spots thank to a narrow 1-0 victory against Valladolid. It was a more comfortable win for Villarreal, who chalked up an impressive 2-0 victory away at Osasuna.
Athletic Bilbao remain in the Europa league qualification spot, 2 points ahead of rivals Real Sociedad following a 1-1 draw against Granada. The hosts thought they had secured all 3 points before Granada pulled level in the 95th minute through Darwin Machís. The other 8PM game saw Celta Vigo brush aside Alavés 3-0, with Iago Aspas and Nolito among the scorers. The final game of the midweek fixtures saw Atlético remain level on points with neighbours Real following a 4-1 trouncing of bottom club Eibar, who remain adrift of the rest on just 5 points so far this season.Share this:
