Week 26 in review
There was another condensed fixture list on Thursday as just 14 teams squared off in Round 26 of La Liga. Undoubtedly the game of the evening came at the Wanda Metropolitano, where Atlético Madrid, bouncing back from their Copa Del Rey disappointment, tore apart Granada 7-0. The hosts were aided by the fact that Granada found themselves down to 9 men by half-time, with both Kenedy and Yangel Herrera receiving their marching orders in the first period, with Atlético taking a 4-0 lead into the break. Former Porto midfielder Hector Herrera ended the match with 4 goals, with former Spurs defender Kieran Trippier also getting on the scoresheet.
With none of the top 3 in action, just above the Madrid side, Athletic Bilbao remain fourth, although having played 2 games more, courtesy of a 1-0 win against Celta Vigo. Real Betis also remain in the hunt for European qualification following a 2-0 victory away to Osasuna, while Cadiz suffered another defeat, this time on the road against Elche. Alavés climbed up to 13th in the table following a 94th minute winner from Deyverson saw them claim all 3 points away to Getafe, who remain just above the relegation zone. Another team who continue to hover in and around relegation are Huesca, who were beaten 2-0 by Villarreal, on-loan Valencia attacker Manu Vallejo again on the scoresheet. Levante picked up what could be a valuable point, albeit they remain in the bottom 3, with a 0-0 draw away to Valladolid.Share this:
