International round-up (Part 9)
Gonçalo Guedes once again came off the bench for Portugal in their final World Cup qualifier of this latest round of fixtures, grabbing a vital assist for Borussia Dortmund full-back Raphael Guerreiro to hand Portugal a 1-0 win against a very solid Montenegro. The goal, just after the hour mark, means Portugal have won all 3 of their qualification games without conceding, Guedes featuring in all 3 before his return to Spain. There was less joy for Carlos Soler, substituted after an hour while winning his 3rd cap as Spain suffered a shock 2-1 defeat against Ireland, Patrick Bamford and Shane Duffy giving Ireland the surprising win.
There was less action for Denis Cheryshev, who managed just 10 minutes off the bench at the end of a 1-0 victory against Romania, his first action during the international break, as he was an unused substitute in the win against Israel and defeat to Belgium. That was also the case for Daniel Wass, although he got slightly longer, getting 23 minutes in a 1-1 draw with Norway after being unused in the first 2 games. Martin Tejón came off the bench again in another victory for the Spanish Under-19s, this time comfortably beating Andorra 3-0, all 3 goals coming from Barcelona youngsters.Share this:
