Valencia reject PSG move for Gayà
News broke last night that cash strapped Valencia had rejected a bid from French champions PSG for club captain José Gayà. Valencia fans were still reeling from the disappointment of just missing out on the title, despite having a season exceeding all expectations, when news broke that the French giants were set to come in for their star player, who has been at the club since a youngster and is considered a key component of the current Valencia side. Although details are a little sketchy, it is believed the side from the French capital had made a take it or leave it offer of around £42 million for the full back, hoping to capitalise on the fact the Spanish side were in financial difficulties.
Valencia were quick to rebuff the offer, as they look to stabilise and rebuild for another shot at the title next season, albeit made difficult by their current economic situation, although they do hope that will be boosted somewhat by the return of Champion’s League football following their impressive campaign last season. During a breakout season for rookie coach Sie Barlow, which saw the club lift both the Super Copa and Copa Del Rey aside from la liga heartbreak, Gayo was a stalwart at left-back. The skipper started 33 games in the league, with 2 goals and 9 assists to his name, while making another 3 appearances in the Copa Del Rey, and also being a regular for the Spanish international side during the season, adding to his previous caps for his country. The 26 year old has, to date, been the ultimate one club man, albeit with a spell at the Mestalla during his development into one of the best left backs in world football.
Although fans will be boosted by the news Valencia have rejected the bid, with other global superstar clubs such as Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Internazionale also sniffing around, the future of the full back may not yet be as clear cut as some would help, although it does at least seem clear it will take a substantial offer to eventually prise the left back away from the Mestalla.Share this:
