Valencia B secure promotion
Valencia B enjoyed a fine end to their season as they secured promotion back into the Segunda division after initially winning their group and then progressing through the play-offs. During the regular season, the former Mestalla side were beaten only once, a 5-2 defeat against local rivals Levante, although they managed an impressive 13 victories during the campaign which saw them finish 10 points above closest rivals Ibiza at the top of the Grupo B3 table. Despite failing to have anyone at the top of the goalscoring charts, they did still manage an impressive 42 goals, conceding just 12 during the regular season. Of the standout players, youngster Jesús Vázquez, who can play anywhere down the left, enjoyed a great campaign with 12 assists, closely followed by Fran Pérez, who spent some of the campaign out on loan.
The youngsters also dominated the pass completion charts, an indication of how well they adopted the style of their senior colleagues during the season, while between the sticks Cristian Rivero enjoyed most clean sheets, with 10, while Andres Céspedes, on loan with Hospitalet, conceded only 20, also a record.
The fine form continued into the B3 promotion stage, as the side chalked up another 30 goals, drawing just once, as they ensured they would reach the play-off stages to shoot for promotion, once again finishing top with 11 points more than Barcelona heading into the final games.
Facing Atlético Baleares, a 2-0 victory away in the first leg gave them the advantage, before finishing the job off 3-2 at home to book a place in the final play-off game. Nacho Muñoz scored 3 times over the two games, wile Lee Kang-In and Janni Serra also chipped in with a goal. In the second round, they were initially on the road again, Lee Kang-In again scoring before picking up a knock in a 2-1 victory in Burgos, the hosts pulling one back very late on. It was more comfortable at home, where they took a 3-0 lead before eventually winning 3-1, Nacho Muñoz with another double, to secure promotion.Share this:
