Week 1 in review
Granada found themselves at the top of La Liga after the first weekend of fixtures following an extremely impressive 4-1 dismantling of Huesca at home, with a hat-trick from Luis Suarez doing the damage, while Atlético dropped down to second after their winning start. Sevilla were also strong winners in a 3-0 victory away at Levante, Munir, Suso and Diego Carlos with the goals. There were also wins for Eibar, and currently holders Real Madrid. Meanwhile, a crowd of over 90,000 saw Barcelona triumph 1-0 over Athletic Bilbao, the hosts needing a Lionel Messi penalty deep into stoppage time to secure the win in a hard fought game, while honours were even in the clashes between Getafe v Osasuna and Valladolid v Villarreal.
Valencia, who find themselves in 7th after the opening round of games, finished the weekend by confirming they had agreed a deal to bring in Daniel Sturridge on a short term contract. It had been thought the double Champions’ League winner would be released after his trial, following the loan signing of Joshua Zirkzee, but Valencia confirmed former Liverpool & Chelsea striker Sturridge would be staying with the club, who are still hoping to move on fellow striker Rubén Sobrino, who fired a hat-trick for the “B” team at the weekend, on. One departure that was confirmed was that of 20 year old midfielder Carlos Pérez, the transfer listed youngster joining Tenerife on a permanent deal. Speculation also continues to mount that attacking utility player Manu Vallejo may also be leaving the club, with several sides in Europe interested in taking the 23 year old on loan for the season.Share this:
