Duo sign new deals with club
Valencia were handed another boost today as experienced first team regulars Daniel Wass and Kevin Gameiro both agreed new deals with the club. Experienced full back Wass, who arrived at Valencia back in 2018 from Celta Vigo, has agreed a new 2 year deal which will take him through until summer 2023. The Danish international, who has also been used in midfield several times this season, has a £30 million release clause on his new deal with the club. A regular starter this season, Wass has made 11 appearances so far, with one from the bench, also claiming 3 assists for the club who sit top of La Liga. Since making the switch to the Mestalla for around £5 million back in the summer of 2018, Wass has made over 30 league appearances each season, a feat he looks to continue this campaign with Los Che.
Veteran striker Kevin Gameiro has also penned a new 2 year deal with the club. The former PSG and Sevilla striker has been enjoying somewhat of a purple patch so far this season, and finds himself top of the goal-scoring charts in La Liga at the moment with 15 goals, 5 clear of Barcelona legend Lionel Messi. The goal a game average at present this season is a career best for the 33 year old, who arrived from fellow La Liga club Atlético Madrid for a fee of around £15 million back in 2018. The former French international, his last appearance coming prior to his switch to current club Valencia, had been attracting the interest of several clubs abroad, so the league leaders will be delighted to tie him down to a new extension, in the hope he can reward the club with his continued success in front of goal as they look to secure European qualification this season.
Elsewhere, Sporting Gijón are thought to be interested in signing Valencia winger Álex Blanco on loan. The 22 year old, who has featured just twice off the bench so far this season, has been available for loan since Barlow arrived at the club, the aim being to get some much needed playing time to aid the development of the former Zaragoza wide man. Gijón currently find themselves sitting 11th in the Segunda division, as they aim to return to La Liga for the first time since 2017. Youngsters Guillem Molina and Carles Aliberch could also head out on loan during the current transfer window, although there are unlikely to be any new arrivals at present given the financial situation at the league leaders.Share this:
