International round-up (Part 8)
Antonio Valencia had plenty to smile about as he came up against team-mates Maxi Gómez and Nicolás De La Cruz on Saturday as Ecuador hosted Uruguay in a World Cup qualifier. The hosts ran out 2-1 winners despite originally falling behind, with Valencia on target from the penalty spot to pull his country level before a late late goal ensured victory. Valencia played the full game in the win, while De La Cruz started and played the first 55 minutes, coming off just after Valencia’s equaliser, while Gómez was thrown on for the last half hour in the defeat.
Lee Kang-In again started for Korea Under-23’s, this time in a 2-0 victory against Indonesia, playing the first hour and having a solid game in the win, including an assist. Portugal had an easy time of it in Andorra as they ran out comfortable 6-0 winners, with Gonçalo Guedes coming off the bench in this one, featuring for the last 30 minutes in the match which saw Atlético Madrid striker Joao Félix grabbing a hat-trick. Carlos Soler also won his second cap for Spain, claiming an assist to boot, as they won 3-0 against Azerbaijan to maintain their perfect start in their World Cup qualification game, winning the game by the same scoreline as their opening fixture against Luxembourg.
Finally, there was once again a strong presence in the Spanish Under-21’s, a 0-0 draw against England with a back four featuring three from Valencia, with Ivan Muñoz and Hugo Guillamón partnering at the back, and Joseda tucking in at right back. Fran Pérez and Jesús Vázquez once again also featured.Share this:
